Tough Choices

I wanted to follow-up our post on the ‘AWARENESS ECONOMY’ with some additional thoughts….

Bottom-line?

Knowing yourself helps us make better choices around our true needs. Satisfying those needs seldom takes much money but it often requires self-knowledge and awareness.

Money… soon a problem?

There are competing forces in the world, you might say ‘values-in-conflict’ that are driving wedges into society.

VUCA could be here to stay?

Within and likely before the next decade ends, these ‘forces’ will rip apart the civilized fabric in the west and possibly globally, changing the economic landscape for the foreseeable future.

Can’t have what you want?

I won’t go into ‘values conflict’ right now but let’s suppose it to be the case. I often talk about CCR: Culture, Conditions, and Requirements and in general there are going to be penultimate economic concerns in all of those.

A little bit spiritual…

The AWARENESS ECONOMY is recursive back into our spiritual roots as the collective shadow darkens, no pun intended. That said, it’s likely to be a lot of ‘rock and roll’ literally and figuratively. A growing field of choices, as most all of civilization in 2024 lives like the kings of old… is gradually shifting to a curtailment of the choice environment for 90% of the global population, as I write.

Gradually… then suddenly.

For most, choices will be dramatically limited as the forces mentioned previously complete their dance in this decade.

A question?

How are people going to live?

And the simple answer is…

…with a lot less. Or a lot more awareness?

My supposition for the awareness economy is that by converting material assets into self-knowledge and awareness, happiness could actually improve with a lot less money involved.

It was Ben Franklin who suggested that we “empty the coins of our purse into our minds… our minds will fill our purse.” (Paraphrased from memory). smiley

And I’m always reminded about my favorite quote from Ariel Durrant which sprang from the Durant’s treatise on the LESSONS of HISTORY… emergent from Durant’s Pulitzer Prize winning The Story of Civilization.

‘The present is the past rolled up for action, and the past is the present unrolled for understanding.’

It might be difficult to grok this idea but it fits the bill which shows that our past including our wiring has a lot to say about what has us… choosing us and is responsible for a lot of our subconscious choices! (Which present day marketing and intelligence depends on!)

As a few of our posts may have suggested, we have been living and working with poverty for the past 15 years… with an idea that better leadership could help (cue, scaffold, support and lift) people and help them shake off the bonds of poverty.

In general, we have failed with only a few transient success points causing us to explore the complexity of poverty.

However, what we learned in the process has shown economics won’t make you happy or successful or less poor until you reach a certain level of awareness. Doing what you can, in ways you can, based on the things that money can’t buy tends to offer the kinds of problems money can’t solve anyway. Wants in the way of needs!

If we know what we need, all of the other sirens of modern life wants and should-haves can be ignored to our betterment.

With the economy becoming a problem for almost everyone, switching back to needs is being forced onto most everyone… it can be a choice with self-knowledge in an awareness economy.

Wanting a path to happiness?

We want more than we need because we are not aware of where our needs and wants come from… hence the opportunity for a shift into an AWARENESS ECONOMY.

If NOW is the time to jumpstart your personal investment and savings in awareness.
